G*Stars
The Gadsden County Board of County Commissioners has a keen interest in reducing juvenile delinquency throughout Gadsden County. According to the Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ), the most frequent time of day for juvenile crime, including violent offenses, peaks at around 3 p.m., generally after school is dismissed. As a result, the Gadsden County Board of County Commissioners, has been the sole funding agency for the G*STARS Program since 2005.
G*STARS (Gadsden Student Training Academy for Reaching Success), is conducted through a partnership between WORKFORCE plus and Tallahassee Community College offering a program that combines the best of two worlds – a program that contains cognitive and social skills, adult supervision and work experience.
Both WORKFORCE plus and Tallahassee Community College work in conjunction with numerous community partners to develop and implement curricula based on family values, prevention, leadership and work-readiness, as well as partner with several Gadsden County elementary schools to engage underage s
tudents who are not old enough to participate in a work experience project due to child labor laws.
